Educate & Celebrate

The story of American Freedmen lineage is tremendously inspiring. The perseverance of our ancestors was a gift that has allowed us to triumph today. Furthering our education by being accepted into college is not a simple accomplishment, and  should not be taken for granted. There was a time in this country where it was made illegal for our ancestors to read and write, keeping them illiterate.  This was an important tool in keeping our people enslaved. The enslavers understood that education was the key to unlocking our freedom. By deciding to further our education, we are continuing to turn that key to freedom and at the same time making our families, as well as your American Freedmen lineage proud. My hope is that this award assists our youth on their journey towards their desired destination in life.
